Back Online

| | Comments (0)

After many a moon wandering about and doing other stuff, I’ve decided to try and use this blog a bit more  ;-)  Famous last words I know, but I need somewhere to put some of my ideas which are not related to work.

I know not a lot of people will be reading this as of yet, but you have to start somewhere – so expect some more of my poster work, a load of my videos and special effects work, musings about life and some tutorials.

Huzzah! Finally it's MovableType 4

| | Comments (0)

After a very long hiatus - I'm back online with the site upgraded to MovableType 4.1.

It's been a bit of an ordeal to swap the templates to the new version - overwrite upgrade my bottom! - but the site it back up and running, so now I can restyle it and find out what customisations I can do.

But less about me and on with the blogging.

Being There

| | Comments (0)

Currently I'm helping set up a new blog / cms for a local businessman, who in his retirement decided to create a help site for people who are getting older.

Being There is using the Wordpress 2.0 blog engine, as was requested by the site owner - it's the first time I've really had a stab at using WP since I first started blogging a year and a half ago - back the it was WP1.5 or so, and I didn't get on with it as well as I did MovableType - it has come a long way since then, and in some respects it's easier to use than MT - especially with the dynamic php method it uses to display pages, which stops that ever so slightly boring wait encurred with MT's static web page creation method.

But in the long run, I think I prefer MT - probably due to me getting my head around the templating system more and not liking the fragility of WP when it's Dugg too much.

But I think I'll start exploring WP properely now and begin on some new tutorials on how to use it for first time bloggers.

Meniscus Film Festival Call For Entries

| | Comments (0)

Meniscus is an independent film festival in its sixth year of existence. The festival is organised by a dedicated team of volunteers, no one is paid for any of their work or assistance in organising the festival. The event is made possible by the good will and participation of independent filmmakers and a little sponsorship money from some very, very kind-hearted individuals and organisations.

The Meniscus Film Festival is currently taking films for its annual 5 min film competition. Films are all submitted based on a single title idea, that varies each year. This years title is ‘TIMING IS EVERYTHING’. You may also add you own title.

SaltPepperVinegar Milestone Achieved

| | Comments (0)

Yay, the site has achieved an important milestone this week, in that it has received it's PageRank from Google - and Google was nice enough to give the front of the site a PR of 5!

This is mainly thanks to the MovableType tutorials and especially to the Category Cloud one using CloudNine, which has created some quality feedback and links to and from other sites. All of which has given me a good moral boost to get working on other tutorials and general design ideas for inclusion on the site.

To celebrate, I bought a link space on Stu Nicholls' site CSS Play, which also supports his work which has inspired me on a few occasions.

Stage Managing, what a job!

| | Comments (0)

In case anyone noticed, I haven't been very vocal on here for the past week or so, mainly due to the amount of work I had being a stage manager at the theatre.

For the forth time, we performed Blithe Spirit at the Caxton Theatre (it's technically a big thing, since there has to be 15 years between repeats on plays - and we had one chap in who'd seen all four!).

Interesting experience which teaches you a lot about time management as well as stagecraft - and apart from making sure everyone was in position, drinks were ready, props were ready, and pressing the button to open the curtain, I also helped build the set and program the lights.

So - back to Movable Type and getting it to work with some of my crazy ideas!

About Me

| | Comments (0)

I was reading an article in a SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) magazine, and it was covering some pretty old topics - one of which was making sure your About Me page was clear and yadda yadda...

This got me thinking, if you are a blogger, do you really need one?

Motorola V3i - My New Phone

| | Comments (0)

Yay, thought I'd do an upgrade this week and replace my two year old mobile with something a bit more swish. Since I'm on a contract, it didn't cost me a penny - just the amount of blood drained from the system for the pay monthly rate ;-)

Since it's a WAP capable mobile, I've been trying to get a Java App to run on it so I can moblog - but to no avail yet, it keeps rejecting my password to MT.

I'm also reserching on how to get MT to create a WAP page, fairly easy, so I'll stick up a tutorial later.
